Our Campaign Platform

Inspired by the community involvement to save the trees at Ackerman Park, Jay, Melissa and Julia decided to become more involved and are running for the Glen Ellyn Park District Board. Jay, Melissa and Julia will want to improve how the Park District functions in three primary areas:

Fiscal Responsibility

Jay, Melissa and Julia will better prepare the Park District to maintain the current programs and improve on service, despite future financial uncertainties. Before spending tax dollars on new projects, the Park District must:

  • use community surveys to establish a desire for the project,
  • establish a need, and
  • provide cost-benefit analysis to prove the feasibility of the project.

Current budgets for long-term capital projects have no correlation between expected expenditures and expected revenues - they are instead a project wish list. The Park District must create a realistic long-range plan based on what we will be able to afford.

Community Participation

Jay, Melissa and Julia will make choices by actively listening to the residents of Glen Ellyn. The Park District must communicate with residents and listen to their needs.

  • Survey the community on a regular basis
  • Seek significant community input into long-range planning
  • provide athletic fields that are well maintained,
  • support parent volunteers, and
  • increase program offerings, including senior programs.

Jay, Melissa and Julia believe that better communication between the Park District and program participants is one way to strengthen the Park District.

Transparency in Government

We feel that it is of the utmost importance that the citizens we serve have confidence that we are making our decisions in their best interest. It is not possible to have this confidence when significant conflicts of interest exist. We have no financial interest in companies doing business with the Park District.

Our citizens also need to be well informed about the Park District's plans, finances and actions. We want to take the following actions to increase Park District transparency:

  • Make important documents such as budgets, expenditures, board packets, policy manuals and long-range planning documents readily available on the Park District website
  • Perform long-range board planning sessions in the Park District boardroom, instead of at the Lisle Hilton.
  • Broadcast all Board meetings on the local cable channel and the Park District website.

Jay, Melissa and Julia look forward to serving the community as Park District Commissioners. Remember to Vote for 3 on April 7!
